
2012 NEWS
January 11 - Happy New Year to all ! The District 4 Legion Riders welcomed the new year with the election of new officers. Jerry Hedke, our former President and one of our founding charter members has decided to hand over the reigns. We want to extend a heart-felt thank you for all Jerry has done over the years. He has been key to building a foundation of who we are and what we represent! No worries, Jerry will be around to help keep us in line!
We would like to welcome our new President, Ray Brammer. We are confident that Ray will provide excellent leadership and continued growth and enthusiasm to our organization! Other newly elected officers include: Jerry Hensley-Vice President; Mary French-Treasurer; Mary Melik-Secretary; Larry Cleapor-Sergeant-at-Arms; Wylie Burnett-Asst. Sergeant-at-Arms; Jim Vanderpool-Committeeman; Tony Abbott-Road Captain & Barbara Day-Chaplin. Our Colorado State Legion Riders President, Roger Wingerberg was present to swear in our new leadership. 2011 NEWS
December 17 - The District 4 Riders made a trip up to the Cheyenne VA to spread Christmas cheers. All our friends up there we glad to see us and enjoy some gifts and root-beer floats. Larry Cleapor and some of us Navy vets presented our friend Charles Loftus with a "Navy Proud" picture which will soon be hung in his room.

June 11 - Jerry, Jeff & Darla brave the cold to visit Trailridge. Dang, that just looks cold albeit impressive!

June 8 - District 4 ALR meeting at Post 111 in Louisville. Pictured Left to Right - President Jerry Hedke presents letter of appreciation to Jim Vanderpool for his outstanding RFTW fundraising efforts, next, Jerry presents Tom Rizzi a much deserved, and long overdue plaque for his RFTW fundraising efforts and all of the previous help Tom has provided to the Legion Riders. On the right, Ray Brammer, who did and excellent job of representing ALR District 4 in the RFTW efforts, presents an appreciation plaque from the "Ride for the Wall" organizers. And last,but not the least, thank you Post 111 for the great grub that night!

June 4 - After the Berthoud Day Parade, a group of us decided to go for a ride up to Carter Lake. Left, a cool-down stop at the Windjammer, right, kick'n back at the Beaver's Den Leather. Was great to see District 5 out riding and stop by to see us at the Den!

May 21 - We had a great turnout to support those on the Ride for the Wall, Limon Fuel Stop! ALR District 4 picked up the tab for all fueling in LImon thanks to the generosity and hard work of allot of folks!

April 23 - A group of us braved the weather and had a great time for a RFTW fundraiser up at The Beaver's Den Leather. Many thanks for all of the support!

2010 NEWS
June 5, 2010 - District 4 Legion Riders held their monthly meeting at Estes Park Post 119 on Saturday. Special thanks toPost 199 for hosting us on such a beautiful day! We had a great ride up through the mountains to Estes Park the wrapped up the afternoon at Patrick & Liz Reinhard's place where he and his lovely wife barbequed up some goodies! Thanks Patrick & Liz, a good time was had by all!
January 13, 2010 - New Legion Rider Officers are sworn in. Please see the "Officers" link on our home page to see more about our officers!

January 29, 2010 - District 4 Legion Riders Color Guard present Colors for convention opening (left to right: Rick Carver, Bill Thompson, Tim Cornett, Barb Day, Jerry Hedke & Tony Abbott). New Army recruits are sworn in right after Colors. Country performer Michael Peterson was in attendance to sing the National Anthem and performed a couple of songs, including "You Could Hear a Pin Drop" performed in the YouTube video below. God bless and protect our new soldiers!
2009 NEWS
October 18, 2009 - District 4 Riders got for a an enjoyable ride a visit the residents of the Longmont Life Care facility. Everyone had a great time and the residents enjoyed seeing the bikes and the company of the riders! Hoorah!

August 23, 2009 - Fellow riders and friends joined Barb & Chris Day for a breakfast benefit to help raise funds to defray Chris's medical costs. We had a GREAT turnout for the event! A special thanks goes out to the Ladies Auxiliary who put together a spectacular breakfast!

JUNE 28, 2009 - A special thank you to everyone that came out for the Jim Avery benefit. A special shout-out to Tom Rizzi (rider and owner of Pete's Place) & Jim Vanderpool for putting allot of time and effort into the event. We had a great turn-out from multiple posts (especially Post 111). Tom cooked up some great BBQ & fix'ns and Steve Mackie provided great music throughout. It was very heart-warming to see folks come out and support Jim Avery. We wish Jim the best in his recovery and want him to know, there are allot of folks out there that appreciate all you do! (We will post more pictures of the event in the "Gallery" once we get them gathered)

JUNE 13, 2009 - District 4 riders went for a great morning ride around the Carter Lake area then held our monthly meeting at Post 4 in LaPorte, Colorado. Post 4 has a great facility, we'd highly encourage others to stop by an give them your support! After our meeting, we rode up to Cheyenne, Wyoming to visit our friends at the Cheyenne VA. As always, Nan was a great host! We all had root beer floats, played some Wii and of course had some great conversations with the regulars and a few new faces! As always, we all felt appreciated and humbled after our visit.
APRIL 25, 2009 - The District 4 Legion Rider's were honored to attend and present colors for the District 4 meeting with American Legion National Commander David K. Rehbein on Saturday, April 25 at Boulder, Post 10. During the festivities, National Commander Rehbein presented Riders President Jerry Hedke with a Legion Riders parade flag that was provided by the American Legion, District 4. We are incredibly honored to receive flag and will display it proudly! Additionally, the Riders presented Mr. Rehbein with a framed American Legion Riders patch and our very special rocker designed with and in honor of Allen Dale June, our very special Navajo Code Talker friend. A very special thanks to our Legion Riders Color Guard that included Tony Abbott, Bill Thompson, Barbara Day, Elise Cornett, Tim Cornett and Roger Wingerberg. We would like to thank Post 10 for hosting this event and making the Riders a part of this very special event.

March 15, 2009 - Another great visit to see our friends up at the Cheyenne VA Hospital. We all had a great time visiting with the guys (and our special lady vet, Mary). Highlights of the afternoon included Wii "cow racing"! Not sure who had more fun at this, the residents or the riders!
One very special moment was when the nurse came by and told us "Not sure what you guys have done, but Charles is in the best spirits that we've seen him in, in a couple of weeks, we've been a bit concerned about him." Charles Loftus is a WWII Navy Veteran that we have all become attached to. All we really did is what we are suppose to do, lend and ear and a shoulder to lean on (although we do admit we snuck him a shake and some cake). We encourage all of you to do the same. You will always come back feeling much better. Our next visit is in June and is on our calendar, please consider joining us!
February 8, 2009 - We are proud to announce that our own ALR District 4 Committeeman Roger Wingerberg has announced his candidacy for the State Presidency of the American Legion Riders of Colorado. Click here for Roger's "bio". We all feel he is an excellent candidate for this position!
February 5, 2009 - (see more photos in "Gallery") District 4 Legion Riders proudly presented Ricky Banks with a Son's of Legion Beret while attending a benefit dinner sponsored by Keenesburg Post 180 on Ricky behalf. Ricky has endured several operations to resolve heart issues and is truly a hero to us! Additional presentations included:
An American Flag blanket presented by District 4 Adjutant John Shriver (along with a flashlight, some stickers, a book and a cap).
American Legion Baseball pins and two collector Rockies baseballs presented by Department American Legion Baseball Chairman Daniel Reyez, Post 18.
Two Patriot Guard pins presented by District 4 Legion Rider Bill Thompson
1st Cav pin presented by Barb Day
An ARMY banner presented by District 4 Legion Commander Tony Dumosch
